Presently,
many cruise ships are crossing the Panama Canal during the
year, and of course with a special stay to observe the beauties
that Panama offers, as tourism destiny. Cruise Liners renown
worldwide such as "Princess Cruises", "Brilliance
of the Seas" of Royal Caribbean, "Carnival Liberty,
Legend, Victory" of Carnival Cruises, Holland Norwegian
Cruise Lines, "Galaxy, Summit, Mercury & Infinity"
of Celebrity Cruises, "Queen Elizabeth 2" and "Queen
Mary 2" (the biggest cruise ship in the world with a
capacity of 2,600 passengers) of Cunard Line to mention some,
have decided to use the Panama route as tourist destiny for
excellence. Panamá, will be the next “Home Port”
for cruise lines, after the Royal Caribbean International
(RCI) announced that it will establish operations in December
2008 in the Atlantic Coast (Province of Colón). The
first ship that weighed anchor from the Colón 2000
Terminal Port will be the “Enchantment of the Seas”
including the route of Cartagena y Santa Marta (Colombia);
Aruba, Bonaire y Curazao. Due to the geographical position
of the Republic of Panama, the country has ports on both sides,
the most important: the Port of Colon, Cristobal and Fort
Amador. At the present time, the cruise activity is strongly
supported by the National Government and private companies;
the Panama Canal, uniting the American continent and two oceans, is
an unforgettable visit.
During the seventh cruise season in Panama (October 2006 to
December 2007), some 200 cruise ships and 315 thousand tourists
will arrive.
